In a national survey of 1,300 consumers shopping for a home while sheltering in place, realtor.com found that being confined to their home has shifted consumer preferences in a home.
Those surveyed said they value quiet neighborhoods (#1 at 13.4%), outdoor spaces (13.2%), location (proximity to groceries, etc 12.8%) and newer kitchens (10.1%). This isn't surprising as people have no place to go for recreation but their own yard and neighborhood. They are eating out less and cooking at home so the kitchen is important.
Younger generations were more drawn to the newer kitchens and extra spaces and older generations were drawn to location amenities.
Of course younger, working people were looking for more space. Space to spread out from other family members, home school, set up a private office and create home gyms.
The availability of and in-law suite or accessory dwelling also ranked higher for parents.
